Muses of Modernity: Women Artists Inspiring Change
International Group Exhibition
In a world marked by constant change, the voices of women in art have grown increasingly significant and are driving both cultural and social transformations. The exhibition Muses of Modernity: Women Artists Inspiring Change at the Kunsthaus Weiz, running from September 25, 2025, to October 31, 2025, brings together powerful works by contemporary female artists from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Curated by Nour Nouri and Georg Gratzer, with Dr. Davood Khazaie and Johann König serving as co-curators, this exhibition focuses on international femininity and offers a diverse perspective on the cultural viewpoints of women from different continents.
The concept of the muse, traditionally understood as a source of inspiration, is reinterpreted here. In this exhibition, the artists themselves become muses by incorporating their own experiences, identities, and cultural backgrounds to create art that challenges and transforms. Thus, the muse is no longer presented as a passive figure, but as an active creator and initiator of artistic visions.

Exhibition Highlights
Cultural Unity
“Muses of Modernity” brings together a diverse array of artistic voices that highlight cultural diversity and global dialogue. The works of female artists from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East offer deep insight into the varied cultural traditions and social contexts that shape their art.
This exhibition highlights the importance of cultural unity by showing how women from different parts of the world integrate their unique perspectives into their art, thereby contributing to a global exchange of ideas and visions.
Artistic forms of expression
The artists featured in the exhibition work with a wide range of media—from traditional painting and sculpture to avant-garde photography. Their works represent the ongoing evolution of contemporary art and redefine modern artistic expression. Artists from Europe combine classical traditions with innovative approaches, while Asian artists employ profound symbolism and complex techniques to bridge the old with the contemporary. Artists from the Middle East contribute powerful narratives of resistance and cultural heritage that raise questions about empowerment and social change.
Promoting the Arts
This exhibition is not only a celebration of women’s work in contemporary art but also a powerful statement on the importance of intercultural exchange and the promotion of the arts. The works reflect themes such as social justice, inequality, and gender rights, viewed through the unique perspectives of female artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. Muses of Modernity creates a platform for an important dialogue that rethinks perceptions of identity, culture, and the role of women in art history.
