Holger

Dempwolff

Schweiz/Switzerland

Holger Dempwolff is a painter whose career spans several decades and has been closely connected with the German and Swiss art scenes. Documented exhibitions in Basel, Bern, and Brunnen, as well as two exhibitions at Galerie Schwind in Frankfurt in the early 1990s, demonstrate a sustained commitment to painting long before his recent participation in larger international museum projects.

Dempwolff’s work is characterized by stillness, restraint, and a subtle movement between landscape, figure, observation, and memory. His paintings often occupy a quiet interval in which recognizable motifs begin to dissolve into atmosphere. Carefully modulated color, patient brushwork, and luminous spatial fields create images that are contemplative rather than dramatic. Recent curatorial texts describe his visual language as shaped by both northern and Mediterranean climates, with light functioning as an emotional and perceptual structure. Landscape becomes a space where seeing, recollection, and inner experience overlap.

His earlier exhibition history includes Galerie Schwind in Frankfurt, Galerie Mäder in Basel, Galerie Christine Brügger in Bern, and Galerie am Leewasser in Brunnen. A major recent international presentation was “Tensions and Transitions: Navigating the Boundaries of Being” at the Rothko Museum, from December 2025 to February 2026. His participation in “Seelenlandschaften” in Greiz in 2026 continues this renewed international museum presence.
